Nuts for the Road at Sturgis Bike Rally

The Rapid City Church in South Dakota sold a lot of nuts and dried produce under the Nuts for the Road banner at the Sturgis Bike Rally. Everyday was a wonderful experience in meeting people. Swint LED Lighting went out of their way to help made sure that the canopy overhead kept the sun at bay, especially the day it was 99 degrees. They even brought a fan attached to a long extension cord to provide a breeze, which was a life saver.

A jar was set on the end of each table under the Nuts for the Road banner with a sign saying, "DONATIONS WELCOME.....FOR OUR ELEMENTARY CHURCH SCHOOL." People donated, but didn't always buy the offered dried fruit or nuts. However, there were some bikers parked across the street that came several times to purchase cashews.

A Southern Baptist group, whose tees read CHAPLAIN, stopped by each morning to share a prayer. They visited the hospitals and the bikers along the streets. Pastor McKey helped at the booth a couple of times. He had the chance to walk down the "main street" and was “saved” four times, courtesy of the many churches represented.

More Rapid City Church members volunteered than were needed. Some had to be called to tell them to stay home when the trip would be too long for them. Their support for this project sprouts "glory bumps" as opposed to goose bumps.

Although the funds gathered were less than anticipated, contacts were received from Florida, California and Minnesota requesting information about how to duplicate the Nuts for the Road fund raising project.
