A Cause for PraiseA CAUSE FOR PRAISE A few weeks ago two Adventist families were victims of one of many storms the Dakotas have suffered this season. Jim and Ellen Kreiter of the Manfred, ND Church lost two grain bins, trees, and shingles off their buildings but were grateful that they were unhurt. The storm passed through around 9:00 p.m. Dale Patzer, a local crop duster and member of the Harvey Adventist Church, was in his RV next to his hanger when the storm turned decidedly worse. He thought he should drive his pickup into the hanger alongside his plane in case of hail. Patzer backed the pickup into the hanger just as the tornado hit around 9:30 p.m. The hanger blew over him across the road and into a neighbor’s field covering about 40 acres with debris. Patzer, bouncing around inside the pickup, thought it was going to turn over. The plane, anchored to a couple of tractors was facing north when the winds hit; afterward it was facing south but with minimal damage. Surprisingly the RV was still upright, as was the pickup truck. Pastor Wayne Easley visited Patzer the next morning remarking that it looked like a war zone. As they were standing by the car, braced against the wind and pointing out the damage, Pastor Easley suggested that they continue the discussion in his car out of the wind. Only a moment after they were settled in the car, a 10 x 12 sheet of metal with attached 2 x 8s and exposed 8” nails flew over the vehicle. They were unhurt, the vehicle was not damaged and they had reason again to praise the Lord for his watched care.
Phyllis Alexander received word from the Red Cross Director that although two homes and six mobile homes were completely destroyed, and every residential home sustained some type of damage in the towns of Dupree and Eagle Butte, South Dakota, there were no fatalities and only one injury requiring hospitalization. Alexander would like to remind the constituents that there is very little reserve in the Dakota Conference Disaster Relief fund if you would choose to contribute for upcoming disaster relief within the conference.
